This is a senior-level opportunity focused on assessing and evolving a large Java application ecosystem within the financial sector. You will analyze applications across Java 8 through Java 21, identifying technical risks, modernization opportunities, and architectural improvements. The role combines hands-on technical assessment with architecture analysis, documentation, and stakeholder collaboration. You will work closely with architects, developers, and client teams to understand complex environments and recommend viable paths forward. The position offers exposure to modern cloud, observability, CI/CD, and application modernization practices. It is ideal for a technically strong professional who enjoys solving complex problems and turning technical findings into actionable recommendations. Evaluate Java applications across versions from Java 8 through Java 21, considering compatibility, technical debt, and modernization opportunities. Analyze Java EE/Jakarta EE and Spring Boot applications, including architecture, frameworks, dependencies, integrations, databases, and build/deployment processes. Identify technical risks, performance bottlenecks, vulnerabilities, architectural limitations, and opportunities for modernization. Assess code quality, test coverage, observability, engineering practices, and overall application health. Support the classification of applications according to their appropriate evolution, migration, modernization, maintenance, or retirement strategy. Participate in technical workshops, interviews, and discussions with client engineering and technology teams. Produce clear technical documentation, architecture diagrams, evidence, assessments, and recommendations. Support proofs of concept and technical feasibility analyses when required. Collaborate with architects, developers, and other technical specialists to validate findings and recommendations. Communicate technical discoveries and recommendations clearly to both technical and business audiences. Contribute to an agile and collaborative environment, working with practices such as Scrum and Kanban. Requirements Solid professional experience developing, supporting, assessing, or modernizing Java applications in complex environments. Strong knowledge of Java and experience understanding the evolution and technical implications of versions from Java 8 to Java 21. Hands-on experience with Java EE/Jakarta EE and/or Spring Boot. Knowledge of technologies and frameworks such as JPA/Hibernate, EJB, JAX-RS, Spring MVC, Spring Data, and Spring Security. Experience with REST APIs, microservices, monolithic applications, and system integrations. Familiarity with Maven or Gradle and Git-based version control practices. Experience with unit and integration testing, particularly JUnit and Mockito. Knowledge of relational databases, SQL, transactions, and persistence concepts. Strong understanding of Clean Code, SOLID principles, and architectural design patterns. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, code quality practices, and tools such as SonarQube. Familiarity with cloud or hybrid-cloud environments, containers, and observability practices. Experience conducting technical analysis, application assessments, system support, or technology modernization initiatives. Strong communication, autonomy, analytical thinking, and collaborative skills. Knowledge of agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban. Experience migrating Java EE applications to Jakarta EE or Spring Boot is a plus. Knowledge of Hexagonal Architecture, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and application modularization is desirable. Experience with Kafka, messaging, and event-driven architectures is a plus. Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Azure, or other cloud platforms is desirable.
