This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Engineer - DevX based in Australia. This is a high-impact Staff Engineering role focused on transforming how software engineers build, test, deploy, and ship products. You will own developer experience across CI, build tooling, codebase health, deployment workflows, and AI-assisted development. The role has a clear mandate to significantly improve engineering productivity across a team of approximately 80 engineers. You will remain deeply hands-on, making high-leverage technical changes across unfamiliar systems, languages, and services. You will also evaluate and scale agentic coding tools while measuring their real-world impact on engineering velocity and quality. Success requires technical depth, strong judgment, and the ability to influence an entire engineering organization without direct management authority. This is an opportunity to create improvements that benefit both internal engineering teams and the developers using the resulting products globally. Own the end-to-end developer experience across CI, build tooling, codebase health, deployment paths, and AI-assisted development workflows. Lead initiatives designed to significantly increase engineering productivity, establishing meaningful metrics and measurement frameworks that reflect both speed and quality. Stay hands-on by writing and shipping production code, making high-impact changes across multiple languages, services, and unfamiliar parts of the technology stack. Identify bottlenecks in engineering workflows and implement practical solutions that reduce friction, improve delivery speed, and raise development quality. Evaluate, introduce, and continuously improve agentic coding tools and AI-powered development workflows, measuring their effectiveness and adoption. Build strong relationships across engineering teams, gain alignment without formal authority, and remove technical or organizational roadblocks. Drive improvements to CI/CD pipelines, build systems, deployment processes, and engineering tooling. Promote sustainable developer productivity practices while balancing speed, reliability, code quality, and engineering standards. Instrument and analyze developer productivity signals, using imperfect data and qualitative feedback to guide informed decisions. Establish reusable practices and systems that improve engineering effectiveness at scale. Requirements Strong software engineering background with substantial production experience and a continued willingness to write and ship code. Experience in platform engineering, developer experience, developer tooling, or a similar role where you have directly improved engineering productivity. Demonstrated success making engineering teams measurably faster or more effective, with a clear understanding of what worked, what did not, and why. Experience operating at meaningful technical or organizational scale and familiarity with the challenges that emerge as engineering teams and systems grow. Strong hands-on experience with AI-assisted and agentic coding tools , including the ability to assess when to trust, modify, validate, or reject AI-generated work. Strong understanding of software development workflows, CI/CD, build systems, deployment processes, and engineering productivity. Ability to work effectively across multiple languages, technologies, and services rather than being limited to a single technical stack. Strong influencing and communication skills, with the ability to build trust, gain buy-in, and lead initiatives without direct managerial authority. Excellent judgment and a willingness to challenge assumptions, experiment, and take sensible technical risks. Comfort working with ambiguity and imperfect measurement signals while maintaining a strong focus on meaningful outcomes. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking abilities. Experience instrumenting
