This is a high-impact backend engineering role focused on building the foundational identity and security infrastructure behind a global technology platform. As a founding member of the Users Infrastructure team in India, you will help shape a new regional engineering hub while contributing to a Tier-1 infrastructure function. You will architect and evolve globally distributed Identity and Access Management (IAM) services using Go, SpiceDB, gRPC, and modern authorization patterns . The role spans authentication, fine-grained authorization, enterprise identity integrations, auditability, observability, and system reliability. You’ll build secure developer-facing platforms that enable hundreds of engineers to integrate identity and security capabilities efficiently. The position combines deep hands-on distributed systems engineering with technical ownership, cross-region collaboration, and leadership. It is an opportunity to influence foundational architecture, security standards, and engineering culture from the ground up. Architect and develop core services responsible for the identity lifecycle , authenticating both human and machine identities across the platform. Design and evolve modern Identity and Access Management (IAM) capabilities, including authentication, authorization, session management, and identity data consistency. Define and implement fine-grained authorization models across complex, multi-tenant organizational and location hierarchies. Lead the transition from legacy authorization approaches toward modern, scalable authorization infrastructure using SpiceDB and Zanzibar-style permission models . Build and maintain the internal SDKs, gRPC contracts, middleware, and developer tooling that provide secure, standardized integration patterns for downstream engineering teams. Establish and maintain enterprise identity integration standards, including SSO, federated identity, SCIM provisioning, and secure machine-to-machine communication . Design and execute complex data migrations and distributed-system changes while maintaining reliability, consistency, and security. Improve operational excellence across Tier-1 services by strengthening observability, monitoring, load testing, alerting, MTTD, and MTTR practices. Own the reliability and integrity of audit logging pipelines and identity data as trusted sources of truth. Develop technical documentation, including detailed Technical Design Documents , to align stakeholders across India and the US. Establish strong engineering standards, operational practices, and a collaborative culture for the growing India-based team. Mentor and support engineers while contributing hands-on to architecture, implementation, code reviews, incident response, and technical strategy. Work asynchronously and collaboratively with distributed engineering, product, and infrastructure teams across multiple time zones. Requirements: 5+ years of backend software engineering experience , with substantial experience building distributed systems in Go . Strong understanding of identity and security fundamentals, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML, and JWT . Proven experience designing and operating distributed architectures and backend services at scale. Experience designing and implementing gRPC-based microservices and service-to-service communication. Demonstrated ability to plan and execute complex data migrations while maintaining system reliability and data integrity. Strong understanding of secure software engineering principles and a Zero-Trust security mindset . Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical design documents and communicate complex architectural decisions across distributed teams.
