This is an opportunity to join a Platform Engineering team focused on improving the developer experience across a global technology environment. You will design and build high-performance backend services, APIs, microservices, and CLI tools using Go. The role has a strong focus on automation, self-service infrastructure, governance-as-code, and scalable internal platforms. You’ll work with Kubernetes, AWS, GitHub, databases, and distributed systems to deliver reliable engineering solutions. Your work will directly reduce operational friction and help development teams move faster and more securely. The environment is remote-first, collaborative, and highly technical, with a strong emphasis on ownership and continuous improvement. This position is open to candidates residing in Australia or New Zealand. Develop internal developer tooling: Build and maintain high-performance Go-based APIs, microservices, and CLI applications that automate processes, reduce friction, and improve engineering productivity. Build scalable automation: Design systems that orchestrate workflows across systems of record, SaaS platforms, internal infrastructure, and other engineering services. Implement governance-as-code: Develop automated solutions for repository and service governance, helping maintain consistent, secure, and scalable engineering standards. Enable self-service infrastructure: Create secure interfaces and abstractions that allow engineering teams to request and manage infrastructure resources independently. Design and maintain backend platforms: Develop reliable services and APIs using Go, with a focus on scalability, maintainability, performance, and resilience. Operate and optimize systems: Deploy and support backend services running on Kubernetes/EKS, taking ownership of performance profiling, debugging, tuning, and reliability. Collaborate across teams: Partner with engineering and other cross-functional teams to understand developer needs, identify bottlenecks, and deliver practical platform solutions. Champion Platform as a Product: Continuously identify opportunities to improve the developer lifecycle through automation, self-service capabilities, and thoughtful platform design. Requirements: Professional experience: Proven professional experience as a Backend Software Engineer using Go in production environments. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. Backend engineering: Strong experience building scalable web services, RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems. Kubernetes: Demonstrated experience developing or operating services on Kubernetes. API expertise: Strong understanding of API design and consumption, including authentication and authorization mechanisms. Databases: Hands-on experience with database management, schema design, query optimization, and database performance tuning. Cloud & infrastructure: Experience managing infrastructure on AWS and working with Kubernetes/EKS. Developer platforms: Experience building internal developer tools, automation solutions, or CLI applications is highly relevant. DevOps practices: Solid knowledge of Git, version control, and continuous integration/continuous delivery. Performance engineering: Experience using profiling and debugging tools to identify bottlenecks and optimize system performance. Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on producing high-quality, maintainable solutions in a fast-paced environment. Communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and time zones. Platform mindset: Genuine interest in Platform as a Product and enthusiasm for identifying developer pain points and solving them
